What do so many homemakers do in January that they didn’t already do the last week of December? After taking a small survey among friends, I found these answers:
- put Christmas decor’ back up until next year – 96%
- help kids get back into a routine – 90%
- start into a new diet/wellness/fitness program – 85%
- want to make structural changes to the house before the kids are out of school – 65%
- want to declutter – organize – simplify – 100%
I was pleasantly surprised! All the homemakers surveyed said that while they are spending so much time indoors during these cold winter months they ALL wanted to utilize that time to purge and deep clean and thoroughly organize their home. It makes sense because once the kids are out of school and home for the summer, most moms are “all in” with vacations, summer trips to the pool, sleepovers … honestly, the summer is the WORST time for busy moms to do deep organizing and cleaning in their homes. But now, while the kids are in school and they may find themselves inside more during the day and in the evenings, they are wanting to tackle their homes — almost with the idea of getting it “ready” for the summer.
So, since I also have started already into my own home, I thought I’d create a very simple “January Homemaking List” and hopefully it will help us all to simply stay on track. What I have on the list is what I hope to have completed by the end of the month…(fingers crossed).
