Today I am beginning with the first of 7 posts in a series called, “Freedom In Christ“. Recently I was asked to share my testimony of freedom for a ladies event at my Church, Colonial Heights Baptist Church. The theme of the night was Freedom in Christ. We had a white dove on our posters, we decorated with birds and bird nests. I can think of nothing that represents freedom to me more than a bird! I want to share that night with you. Each post will have a picture from my bird collection, most of which were given to me by my husband. The Lord told me to share the same testimony with you word for word. He then showed me very clearly how to break it down into 7 posts. I will put them on the site in consecutive order so that you can read the testimony in its entirety. So if you miss a day don’t worry, it will be on the site. I will number them so you don’t get confused, (and so I don’t either! ha!) So here it goes ……
Ladies, I want to ask you a question: What “grips” you? Is it fear, worry, confusion, chaos, fatigue, food, shopping, gossip, your spouse, your kids, the “things” of this world, or is it even yourself? Yes, I said yourself. There is a “god” with a little “g” and it is called the “god of me”. Ladies, what is it in your life that has a hold on you? You know what I am talking about; it is that “thing” that keeps coming up over and over. All of these things cause a divided heart or a hardened heart. That is NOT God’s plan for you. We should be in NO ONE’S or NO THING’S grip but the grip of our God!
So….we know this, but it is putting it into action that we struggle with. How do we move from the things of the enemy ( b/c that is what the list I just gave you is, all things from the enemy, they are not of God) to God’s Grip and God’s Amazing Grace? That is why I am speaking to you on this topic. I want you to experience Freedom In Christ in this year like never before, but more importantly GOD wants you to experience it. He has been teaching me this and I am blessed to be the mouthpiece He is using tonight to speak His Word to you.
Our verse for this series is found in Galatians 5:1; I am using the NIV translation for this teaching:
“It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.”
We have to know how to stand and the only way to do this is through praise, getting on our knees and in His Word. Tomorrow I will give you a little background on how I got to this place and why this topic. Until then, ask yourself what “grips” you. Ask the Holy Spirit to speak to you and show you what your “thing” is. As we travel through these next 6 posts we will discover how to get free!
