In The Middle of the Storm

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

“Then it came to pass on the third day, in the morning, that there were thunderings and lightnings, and a thick cloud on the mountain; and the sound of the trumpet was very loud, so that all the people who were in the camp trembled.”  Exodus 19:16

“God’s been good to me.  Oh, God’s always been good.”  “He’s been faithful, faithful to me.  Looking back His love and mercy I see. There’s been times I have questioned, even failed to believe, but He’s been faithful, faithful to me.”  These are lines from two Christian songs that often flood my heart.

Singing praises to God brings hope when the dark clouds gather. Christ followers are blessed to have that joy, joy, joy, joy down in their hearts.  The love and peace of Jesus flows like a river, even when the thunder rolls.  Thunder threatens but it’s only lightening that can bring possible damage.

Growing up, my mom would have my sister and me come sit on the couch during a storm.  I didn’t realize her purpose then, however, I now know why.  We were both “scaredy cats.”  She taught us to revere the One who created the thunder and lightening.  The beauty of the lightening is actually amazing to watch.  Even when the window glass would rattle from the earth shaking thunder; we knew we were safe beside of our mother.

When the storms of life threaten to overtake us; we don’t have to be afraid.  We can stand and see the salvation of the Lord.  He is faithful to “teach us and train us in righteousness.”  God never stops being God; even in the middle of the worst storms life can ever bring.  He wants us to come sit down and watch Him work during the storm.

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart.  Lean not unto your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him.  He will direct your path.”  Proverbs 3:5-6  (Even in the middle of the storm.)

Prayer in Motion:

Lord Jesus, I trust You in the middle of this storm. You are with me because you promised you would never leaven me nor forsake me.  I take great comfort in knowing You will accomplish what concerns me both now and always.  In Jesus Name.  Amen
