Psalm 28:6
Blessed be the Lord!
For he has heard the voice of my pleas for mercy.
The Lord is my strength and my shield;
in him my heart trusts, and I am helped;
my heart exults,
and with my song I give thanks to him.
Psalm 28 is for those days when you feel like everything is stacked against you. David wrote this Psalm as a cry for help while he was facing the threats of his enemies. He felt pressed in all directions and so did those he lived among. It just seemed as if evil was everywhere! Sounds familiar to our world and times today.
But look at our verse, David blessed God no matter what. He knew beyond a shadow of a doubt that the God of the universe had heard his prayers. David knew where his strength came from and he knew who his protector was. David knew God would deal with his enemies. We need to be reminded that God deals with ours as well.
Often times when we are in the midst of great conflict, feeling as if we are surrounded on all sides, we don’t know what to pray. I have found that the best thing to pray for all circumstances is the Word of God. There is great comfort in knowing that the very words you need have been provided for you when you don’t know what to say. When we pray the Word of God we can rest assured that we are not praying outside the will of God. If you need protection, it is found in His Word. Do you have an enemy and don’t know how to deal with them? It can be found in His Word. Has God blessed you beyond measure and you just want to praise Him? Pray His Word back to Him. He inhabits the praises of His people.
For quite some time me and my husband have been dealing with an enemy but God has proven faithful over and over and over again. On those days when I am confused and weary and don’t even know how to petition the Lord, I pray His Word. It has never failed me, nor has the God that we serve. I want to do as David did, I want to give God thanks no matter what.
If you are in a season of distress cry out to God and give Him your burdens but most importantly praise Him. Praise is the best way to get out of the pit. Your circumstances may not change immediately but your Spirit will soar!
