This verse should have been featured to help introduce you to our new series on The Fruit of the Spirit. One of our newest Inspirers, Kimberly Fulgham, began our series writing on love and joy. I know her words challenged you in all sorts of ways to understand the love and the joy that all believers have. Today we will continue the journey Kimberly started us on by taking a look into something we all desperately crave; peace.
Peace. Yes, we crave it. We long for it, we search for it. We try to buy it or obtain it and it simply doesn’t work that way. The world tries to market it as a lifestyle. We try to go to a place of peace, we try to get away to find peace, we try to drink it, eat it and some of us even try to find our place of peace through diet and exercise. We find ourselves frantically searching for peace. Frantically and peace in the same sentence doesn’t sound right, does it?
Let me introduce you to real peace. I am talking about peace that washes over you in the midst of turmoil. I am talking about peace that you can ‘t even put into words, and it certainly can’t be bought and sold. I am talking about Peace Himself, Jesus Christ, the Son of God. The Risen One, The Holy One. The Prince of Peace. He alone is our Peace. When we make HIM our heart’s focus, when we sit awhile at HIS feet, when we read HIS Word…..that is where we find Him. To find Him is to find Peace.
For many years now, I have a cut out piece of paper stuck on the kitchen cabinet to the left of my cook top. It is not put up with some pretty ribbon or frame. It is plain, simple, and to the point. It is literally stuck to the cabinet with a good ole piece of scotch tape. It is there for me to see every time I am in the kitchen, especially when I am cooking. Some days I look at it, other days I walk on by. But, I know it is there right where I put it, right when I need it. The Word and Scotch tape, they won’t let me down.
I hope this post does the same for you. It is simple and to the point. Will you consider printing off the below verses on “peace” and scotch-taping them somewhere in your house or car so you will be able to easily read and receive it, when you need some peace?
“The fruit of the Spirit is….peace.” To be spiritually minded is life and peace.
God hath called us to peace. Peace I leave with you, My peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid. The God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that ye may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Ghost.
I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto Him against that day. Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee.
The work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever. And my people shall dwell in a peaceable habitation, and in sure dwellings, and in quiet resting places. Whoso hearkeneth unto me shall dwell safely, and shall be quiet from fear of evil.
Great peace have they which love thy law.
