Patience Is …

I have the privilege of working among the staff at my local church. I sent them all an email asking for their personal thoughts on patience. I received an abundance of good information! If I were to share it all, I’d be writing posts on patience for months! Here are a few of  their insights for you to consider:

Patience is accepting a difficult situation from God without giving Him a deadline to remove it.

Patience is when we properly respond to trials and tribulations. Paul wrote: “We glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience: and patience experience: and experience, hope” Romans 5:3-4

Patience is putting up with the inadequacies in others, but long-suffering responds to the willful or repeated hurts we experience. A long-suffering person can endure a prolonged difficult situation without becoming irritated or angry.

Patience is a calm endurance based on the certain knowledge that God is in control.

Patience is described in Galatians 5:22-23 as perseverance. It is the ability to persevere and overcome in spite of circumstances and suffering.

Patience is enduring and withstanding circumstances of daily living.

Patience is an act of faith and surrender to God’s sovereignty and integrity. It is believing that He knows and does far better than us. Therefore, we are willing to forgo the satisfaction and gratification of the immediate in order to wait and experience God’s best.

So, as we enter into this new summer season, let’s hold fast to these insights on patience. Pray God’s Word, asking the Holy Spirit to produce in you, for you, and through you the patience that you can’t produce on your own.

Pray …

Galatians 5:22-23 – But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,  gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.

Ephesians 4:1-3 – I therefore, a prisoner for the Lord, urge you to walk in a manner worthy of the calling to which you have been called, with all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love, eager to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.

Colossians 1:11-12  – May you be strengthened with all power, according to his glorious might, for all endurance and patience with joy, giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of the saints in light.

Colossians 3:12-13 – Put on then, as God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience, bearing with one another and, if one has a complaint against another, forgiving each other; as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive.
