One Verse Can Change Your Entire Day

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

You know when you are reading God’s Word and one verse just jumps out at you? You know the ones that are filled with all sorts of things like comfort, counsel, correction and sometimes commands? Well, today was one of those days. Tucked in our verse for today are 4 commands from the Lord, this verse packs a lot of punch if we will obey.

“Trust in the Lord, and do good; dwell in the land and befriend faithfulness.” Psalm 37:3

Now let’s read the verse with some emphasis on the commands or instructions from the Lord:

“Trust in the Lord, and do good; dwell in the land and befriend faithfulness.” Psalm 37:3

I love words. I love to look up the definitions of words that I already know, because I want to get a new perspective on them, I want a fresh look at them. Let’s face it, some words that we use in our everyday talking and writing are just tired. We use them so much we don’t even think about what we are saying when we use them. Such can be the case with trust, do, dwell and befriend.

So, let’s do a little word study! I love to be the teacher!

1. Trust means to believe in the reliability, truth, ability, or strength of something. Or in our case, someONE.

2. Do means to achieve or complete something in particular. In our verse it has a positive connotation.

3. Dwell means to  live in or at a specified place.

4. Befriend is an interesting word. It may be one we don’t use as often as trust, do and dwell, but I still think it deserves another look.  It means to act as a friend to someone by offering help or support.  In my ESV Bible it says that another translation of our verse could read, “and feed on faithfulness” or “find safe pasture“.  I LOVE this! We should literally consume faithfulness, it should provide safe pasture for us. How beautiful is the Word of God?

Now, if we take our verse and really understand all that it means, all that God is telling us to do, we may hear Him say something like this to us:

Believe in My reliability. I am Truth. I am able and I am more than strong enough. I want you to achieve great things for My Kingdom. I want you to finish your job well, it was picked especially for you. There are so many that need a touch from Me and I am using you to do it. Enjoy where I have placed you My child. I knew where you would be at this very moment before there was ever a hair on your head. And above all, feed on My faithfulness to you. It is there that you will find safe pasture. I am your Friend, now go and be a friend. I love you so much. Go out today and trust, do, dwell and befriend. I am right beside you, it is going to be a good day!”

Have a great day!
