“She refilled her pitcher, and in doing so, she was able to refresh everyone around her.”  Queenisms

For everything that was written in the past was written to teach us, so that through the endurance taught in the Scriptures and the encouragement they provide we might have hope. Romans 15:4 NIV

No doubt Paul’s New Testament writings remind us that the Old Testament passages provide courage and hope!

Looking back to one of my favorite accounts in the Old Testament, 2 Kings 4 blows my mind! It confirms the New Testament passage Jesus told His followers,

“With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”

(Matthew 19:26 NIV)

Okay,  so my paraphrase goes something like this:

The lady’s debt was enormous since her husband died. The kids were about to be taken away from her. She was stressed out and afraid because she didn’t have the resources to resolve their financial crisis. On the scene steps Elisha, the man of God, inquiring about possessions she Craig’s list and sell to repay the debt. All she had was a bottle of oil! A bottle of oil! Elisha instructed her to gather buckets, containers and jars from everyone in town and fill them with the oil. I can only imagine her mental argument about the man of God’s request but out of desperation she threw all caution to the wind and did it. She poured the oil into the first jar, the second and the fiftieth jar! Lord have mercy, when she began to pour the oil into the empty jars, the oil continued to flow. It flowed until every single borrowed jar was filled!

Don’t miss it, the oil flowed until every jar was filled.

  1. Surrender: like the woman desperate for help we too must run for God. He is the only One capable of guiding us through life and all that comes with it. As we give up our rights and yield to His instruction we will be filled with His presence, power and His passion for those around us.
  2. Filled: being full of His Word and the Holy Spirit is the only possible way to minister effectively. As we pour fresh oil into others, it will permeate and diffuse throughout the church body and beyond our four little walls.

(synonyms for fill:  become an overwhelming presence in)

Sweet One, when we fill our lives with His Word He empowers us to live Truth, refreshing everyone around us.
