Jesus answered and said to him, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.” John 3:3
Jesus used the phrase; “Truly, truly I say to you” twenty five times in the book of John. Other versions say, verily, verily I say unto you.” Verily means truly and confidently.
Truly, truly means in an honest manner, in truth, without question or doubt, in all sincerity, in agreement with the facts.
When your parents said; “Sit down, we need to talk.” You probably thought, “Uh oh, I’m in trouble.” They were asking for your undivided attention. What they were about to speak to you was the truth. Their words were for your good. Consequences would follow if you failed to listen and heed the truth they were speaking.
DID YOU HAVE EARS TO HEAR?
Isaiah 30:21a tells us, “Your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying, “This is the way, walk in it.”
Proverbs 23:12 says, “Apply your heart to instruction, and your ears to words of knowledge.”
ARE YOU LIVING AS IF YOU ARE IN AGREEMENT WITH JESUS?
Oh dear friend; how we need to have ears to hear and a heart to obey all the words of Jesus; especially the words following “truly, truly.”
I would encourage you to look up the twenty five times Jesus says, “Truly, truly I say unto you,” in the book of John. As you read these scriptures; ask the Lord if you are in agreement with Him. Ask Him, “What do I need to do; to come into agreement with you?” Do I need to confess a sin of rebellion against any of His truly, truly statements? Listen, listen for His voice.
Prayer in Motion:
Help me Lord to have ears to hear and a heart to believe You and to obey all the words You said. I want to be quiet and listen for Your voice. Speak to my heart Lord Jesus. Speak that my soul may hear. Calm every doubt and fear. May I rest today in all the words that follow truly, truly. In Jesus Name I offer up this prayer. Amen
