Tradition

Let all things be done decently and in order.  1 Corinthians 14:40

As I began un-decorating my house after Christmas; I realized my Christmas decorations had been up for over two months. That’s clearly a record for me.  I never leave Christmas up for over a month.  My tradition has been; to put out my decorations the day after Thanksgiving and put them away the day after Christmas.

Sometimes life interferes with our traditions.

It’s okay.  People die.  I attended two funerals over the Christmas season.  Ministry opportunities come.  Those are momentary.  Precious friends came to visit.   You must seize every single God-given opportunity. The other stuff will get done at the right time.  Always do the important things over your traditions.  You can’t get those present moments back; with your friends; your family or those opportunities

People should always take precedence over traditions.

Google the song “Tradition” from the play, “Fiddler on the Roof.” One of the “key” lines from this play is “Because we’ve kept tradition; we’ve kept our balance.”  Another line states; “Without our traditions, our lives would be as shaky as a fiddler on the roof.”

There are rebels who believe traditions were made to be broken. I’m not in any way suggesting that you disregard all of your traditions.  Traditions imply order and even God is a God of order.

Tradition brings stability to our lives; however, we should not allow it to become our God,                                                                set in stone, never to be broken, no matter what!

Prayer in Motion:

Lord God, I acknowledge that You are a God of order.  Order brings peace and calm.  I long to keep all God honoring traditions.  I know there are some traditions that are just mine. Help me to be flexible when I need to release the tradition for the moment.  May I offer any tradition as a living sacrifice in order to accomplish Your perfect will.  I love You Lord.  In Jesus Name.  Amen
