“I know also, my God, that You test the heart and have pleasure in uprightness. As for me, in the uprightness of my heart I have willingly offered all thee things; and now with joy I have seen Your people, who are present here to offer willingly to You.” 1 Chronicles 29:17
I hated tests in school. It didn’t matter how much I prepared; I would make myself sick with worry. My heart would pound as if I had run a race. Relief didn’t come until after I put down my pencil at the end of the test.
Recently, my husband and I went to see God’s Not Dead II. There was a one liner quoted by Pat Boone’s character, that struck me to the core of my being. His daughter’s name in the movie was Grace. She was in legal trouble for using scripture to answer a student’s question about Jesus.
Grace stood to lose everything; her position; her money, even her house. The court had appointed her a non-Christian attorney, a young lawyer low on the totem pole. In his mind, hope for victory was slim to none.
On her knees, Grace begged God for divine intervention. Her strong faith was shaken to its core. At a particularly low time, her wise father made this powerful statement. “There is something I want you to remember.”
“The teacher is most silent during the test.”
It’s true! I had never thought about testing this way. Every time you had a test in school, did the teacher talk? NO! The only movement were the pencils moving across the paper.
You wait and wait upon the Lord; your Teacher, for answers to life’s hardest tests. All of heaven seems to be silent. As you wait upon the Lord; are you listening with the ear of a pupil who’s longing to be taught? The goal is to pass each test with great faith.
Prayer in Motion:
God, although the testing is hard, I long to pass with flying colors. I want to please You. As I wait upon You, may my strength be renewed. May I mount up with wings as eagles, run and not be weary, walk and not faint. (from Isaiah 40:31) I love you Jesus! I trust You alone, my most awesome Teacher. In Jesus Name. Amen
