The Prayer God Hears

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

“The fervent, effectual prayers of a righteous man avails much!”  James 5:16

Ever heard anyone say, “I don’t think my prayers get past the ceiling.”  Maybe you’ve felt that way.  Even though you’ve prayed as fervently as you know how; it seems God is not hearing your prayers.  Your friends seem to be getting their prayers answered very quickly but yours seem to be put on hold.  You ask as David, “How long oh Lord? Will you forget me forever?”

I have great news for you.  God has not forgotten you! He truly hears every single detail of the prayers you lift toward His throne room.  Jesus is ever interceding for you at the right hand of the Father.

The Bible says:

“If I regard iniquity in my heart, the Lord cannot hear my prayer.”  Psalm 66:18

Ask the Lord to create in you a clean heart and renew a right spirit within you.”  Psalm 51:11

After He reveals the sin;

“If you confess your sin, the Lord will be faithful and just to forgive your sins and to cleanse you from all unrighteousness.” 1 John 1:9

“He removes your sin from you as far as the east is from the west and remembers it no more.” Psalm 103:12

Your fellowship is restored immediately with the Father.  Now, does that mean your prayer will always be answered in the way you want it to be answered?  No, we must always pray, “Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.”

I’ll give you an example.  When I was twenty four years old, my mom was dying with cancer.  Our pastor came and my dad, my sister, myself and our pastor knelt around her hospital bed and prayed Matthew 18:19-20

“Again I say to you, if two of you agree on earth about anything they ask, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven.  For where two or three are gathered in my name, there am I among them.”

We had quoted this promise from God and then asked Him to heal Mom.  I proceeded to tell everyone,  Mom would be healed.  There were four of us.  We had agreed.  We had believed.  Three days after we had prayed, mom sat up, ate a little, and said a few words.  This was it!  God was answering our prayers.  I just knew she would come home.  Three days later, Mom did go HOME, to heaven.  As a young Christian, I was devastated.  God stirred gently in my spirit. “Libby, I did heal her, perfectly.  She’s with Me.”  I was not happy with that answer.  I cried, “But God, you know that wasn’t what I meant. I wanted her here with me.” Heaven was silent.  The Lord knew I had to come to the place of knowing His will had been done.  Everyone has an appointed time to be born and an appointed time to die.

Did God hear our prayers?  Most definitely!  Did He answer the way we wanted?  Not exactly.  However, did He answer the way He knew was best?  Most definitely!
