The List

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

Psalm 139:16 “You saw me before I was born. Every day of my life was recorded in your book. Every moment was laid out before a single day had passed.”

1 Corinthians 7:17″ Only let each person lead the life that the Lord has assigned to him, and to which God has called him. This is my rule in all the churches.”

Jeremiah 1:5 “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, And before you were born I consecrated you;  I have appointed you a prophet to the nations.”

My mentor of over 30 years often speaks of our “lists” in Heaven. Her thoughts on this are that before we are born, God not only knows us but He has planned things for us to do. Things that only we can do. He has hand picked us for different assignments. Her favorite verse to base this on is the one in Jeremiah. While thinking on this I found the other verses above that I believe also support the idea of our having a Heavenly List.

The founder of Interior Inspirations, Lisa Rippy posted a wonderful blog called Living the “Best Yes” Doesn’t Necessarily Require Saying “No”. I hope you will take the time to read it and watch her videos on getting organized. Her post and videos go right along with the list mentality of my mentor that I mentioned.

God has ordered our days, He knows the number of hair on our heads! If He has put something on our list, then not only can we accomplish it, but we must accomplish it. But there is a catch…..even though He has assigned it to us, we must do it through Him. Our part is being willing and being obedient. According to Philippians 4:13, we can do all things through Christ who gives us strength. Ladies, (and gentlemen) we can do everything well, orderly and on time with Christ working through us to get it done.

We will all have days where we don’t “feel” like we can do one thing on our “lists” let alone five or six! This is a good time for us to remember that 1 John 4:4 tells us greater is He that is in us than he that is in the world. If God has placed it on your list, then He will help you to do it and do it well.

As the Spring season is upon us and summer is around the corner, spend some time with the Lord and ask Him what your list looks like. Write down everything you are currently involved in. Think through the things you see coming as another school year ends and summer begins. God will speak to you and you will have a peace and contentment over the things that are on your “list”. If God reveals that something you are doing needs to go, don’t fret because He has it placed on someone else’s for this season.

Lisa mentioned getting up just 30 minutes earlier, trust me, this is a valuable tip and it works! When you are doing what you are supposed to be doing by serving the Lord, your family, work, friends, and your Church you will have peace, joy and more energy.

I would like to close by saying the most important thing for you to do on your list EVERY day is spending time in God’s Word first. It may be 15 minutes or for some it may be an hour. Whatever it is, if you keep this appointment with God, I promise He won’t be late and He won’t be a no show. You will find that after spending time with Him, your day makes much more sense and there is an order to it that you won’t have without time with Him. God is indeed a God or order, get in on what He has planned for you.

If any of you spend some time with Him to see what is on your list, we would love to hear from you! Tell us how you carved out some special time to hear from Him, and give us your tips for how you will put your list into action.
