The Fabric of our Lives

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made;  Marvelous are Your works,
And that my soul knows very well.  Psalm 139:14

While preparing for a Spring women’s retreat; I began to think about the fabrics we wear and use; the cottons, the polyesters, the wools, the nylons and silks, the leathers.  That’s only a fraction of all the fabrics we’ve worn over the course of our lives.

Any fabric can cover our bodies, our feet, our hands or our heads.  One fabric may work better than another for a particular article of clothing.  One may keep us warmer while another will keep us cooler.

My favorite fabric is cotton; the one that’s advertised to be the “fabric of our lives.” Each thread is carefully woven together to bring the most comfortable garment possible.  One of my most favorite things; is a quilt made by my sister in law; Reba Williams.  It matches my whole decor perfectly, so I keep it proudly displayed on my sofa.  Every time I wash this quilt; it gets softer and softer.  I feel blessed by her hours of work; as well as the impeccable quality of the cotton she used to make this quilt.

The fabric in the body of Christ; is as individual as the quilt Reba made for me.  We are all fearfully and wonderfully made and our soul knows it very well.

We each gravitate toward like minded believers. Have you ever heard someone say; we are cut out of the same cloth?  What does that mean?  It’s when people have the same dreams, goals and desires.  We are quilted together with each individual friend; different shapes and colors but all fitting together, to accomplish one common goal.  The body of Christ should fit and move like a quilt; working together to cover all the bases.  The body of Christ should have one purpose and one common goal, to share Christ and make Him known.  Our goal is to feed the hungry; go into all the world and preach the gospel, baptizing them in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things.

Let’s determine to be the fabric God created us to be, so the whole world will be covered with the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Prayer:

Lord, please help me to be the fabric of the church of Jesus Christ.  May I  wear it;  to honor the One who died so I could wear this fabric for the purpose for which He created it.  Thank You Lord.  It’s in Your name I pray.  Amen!
