See This Thing

“When the angels had left them and gone into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, “Let’s go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has told us about.”  Luke 2:15

Christmas in America is “the most wonderful time of the year.” There is much “mistle-toeing”, planning for company, baking and gift buying; enough to overwhelm one’s soul, during this “season to be jolly”!

It is beautiful to behold the grand displays of lights, trees, wreaths, and blow ups on the outside of homes.  We drive hours to see decorated neighborhoods and dazzling city lights.  We go to hear musicals and performances, all focused on bringing “tidings of comfort and joy.”  Millions of people go into deeper debt to satisfy the wants of their loved ones. After all of our Christmas preparation and celebration is done, the decorations are put away; the glitz and glitter begin to quickly fade away.

The whole purpose for Christ coming was to give us life abundantly  on earth and eternal life in heaven. Do we even stop to read the Christmas story found in Luke 2?  It never grows old.  The whole reason for the season should be read daily and prayed through; so that our focus does not become blurred.

If someone came to your house and told you; “I came to give you life and life abundantly;” wouldn’t you be so excited? Life with Christ is never dull and boring.  Abundant life means life to the fullest.  It is a life full of love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self control.

Can you imagine the shepherds excitement as they were seeing prophecy fulfilled?  They were going to Bethlehem, to see the thing for which they had been preparing, the birth of the Savior of the World!

Are you preparing yourself on a daily basis for the return of Christ?  He is coming soon and very soon.  It’s possible that this generation might not pass away until He returns.  Do you know Him and if so; are you sharing His love with those whom He has placed in your sphere of influence?  That’s the greatest gift you can give anyone and it’s free!  You don’t have to go into debt for this gift of eternal life. Christ already paid that debt with His own life.

We can see Christmas in a whole new light this season.  Pour into His “Christmas story.”  Ask Him to show you something precious every single day; from now until Christmas.  “See this thing” with a whole new perspective.

Prayer in Motion:

Lord, may I “see this thing,” with fresh new eyes.  May I celebrate this season the way it’s meant to be celebrated . When it’s over, may I see You more clearly, and love You more deeply than ever before.  In Jesus Name.  Amen

    Libby,
I always enjoy your contributions. You have great questioning skills that direct our thinking in one direction–how to be closer to God. I also enjoy the prayers at the end. You are very talented and I’m so glad you share your talents with us.
