Pull Me Out

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

“Come let us sell him to the Ishmaelites, and let not our hand be upon him, for he is our brother and oru flesh.”  And his brothers listened.  Then Midianite traders passed by; so the brothers pulled Joseph up and lifted him out of the pit, and sold him to the Ishmaelites for twenty shekels of silver.  And they took Joseph to Egypt.”  Genesis 37:27-28

We have a ditch in our front yard that stays wet 99% of the time. Our house is at the end of a street; with a road that slopes all the way down.  After all the recent rain we’ve encountered; it was absolutely sloshy and miry.  As I was eating my dinner; there was a heavy rapping on my front door.  It was my husband, who had been out mowing around our front ditch.   The front wheels of his lawn mower were almost fully submerged into the mud. He was throughly stuck, so he asked, “Libby, would you grab my keys and come pull me out.”

I drove Ben’s car down to the front of our lawn, backed it up to the stuck mower.  He attached a “tie down” with two large hooks; one to the lawn mower and one onto the car.  I placed the car in drive and slowly pulled him out of the ditch.  It’s amazing how quickly a little horse power can rescue a thousand pound machine.  I chuckled when I said, “I just rescued you.”  Ben said, “Yes you did.”

Joseph’s pit was obviously deep enough that young Joseph could not pull himself out of the hole. The same brothers who placed Joseph in a pit to die; decided to pull him out and sell him into slavery.  It took the same man power to pull him out, as it did to put him in that pit.  I wonder  what method these brothers used to pull Joseph out?  Did they just happened to have a rope, or did they link their bodies together, to pull him out?

We have a ready method to pull people out of the pit of lostness. God has left us with the gospel of Jesus Christ.  It is the power unto salvation.  Through the blood of Jesus and the power of God’s Holy Spirit; we can speak His Word, His Truth, His Gospel message; to those who are lost, giving them the opportunity, to be rescued from eternal damnation and choosing  eternal life in heaven.

God took what Satan meant for evil in Joseph’s life and used it to rescue His brothers and His father. You can read the rest of this amazing story in Genesis 37-47.

Prayer in Motion

Lord, may I willingly give out Your gospel message to the lost people, You have strategically placed in my life.  You died that I might have eternal life. You left me with Your precious Holy Spirit, to empower and equip me; to pull lost people out of the pit of their lostness.  Oh God, put opportunities before me and please grant me Holy boldness to speak Your gospel message. In Jesus Name I offer up this prayer.  Amen
