Happy January 4th!! It’s the FIRST Saturday of the month and for some of us, this is actually the day we are launching into some new habits, better habits for our life because to be honest, when the 1st lands in the middle of a work week, then you just seem to put off to the weekend where you’re wanting that NEW BEGINNING to begin! At least that’s what I opted for!
One thing Rip appreciates SO much is when things are grouped and organized. Working with retailing for 32 years, he just has it in his DNA to sort and group. For everything to have a place. And through the years of our marriage, it has soooo rubbed off on me! To be able to say exactly where something is not only a huge stress reliever, but it makes life purely simple.
That whole mindset of grouping and sorting and organizing has made its way into my “planner” life for sure. And the motivation it brings is just remarkable! I never knew just how much more productive life really could be when we slow down and actually separate (to some degree) the key areas of your life … in how you approach and develop those areas.
I have a planner for the three main areas of my life:
- Family/home planner (I share that on in this post)
- Work planner – (that planner never leaves the office 🙂
- Pilgrimage Planner
So what is a Pilgrimage Planner?
It’s one that I use for only one purpose – only one – and the purpose is to journal my pilgrimage on this beautiful earth with Jesus. To journal my walk with Him. To have a written down track of His faithfulness.
Psalm 84:5 says, “Blessed are those whose strength is in you, whose hearts are set on pilgrimage.” Not, “on the pilgrimage,” but “on pilgrimage.”
The reason it is worded this way is when our hearts are set ON PILGRIMAGE, that means our hearts are set ON “the life where God travels.” The life where God lives. The Message Bible describes this pilgrimage so poetically –
“And how blessed all those in whom You live,
whose lives become roads You travel;
They wind through lonesome valleys, come upon brooks,
discover cool springs and pools brimming with rain!
God-traveled, these roads curve up the mountain, and
at the last turn—Zion! God in full view!” TM
This Pilgrimage Planner is not for appointments, meetings, grocery lists, home projects, or recording life events. This planner is for daily jotting down the journey on the road He travels and I’m with Him. I want to notice Him. To see where He is at work. How He leads in prayer and how He answers in prayer, too. To write down my hopes and where I believe He is leading and guiding. To make drawings and sketches and to simplify my thoughts with Him into a poem. It’s a Pilgrimage Planner for the joyful purpose of writing to Him about Him and all that He is in my life.
It’s like a diary of sorts, but not so much about me, as it is a place for me to record His presence in and all around my life. To see what He does when we stop and pray. To curve up the mountain with Him and to wind through any lonesome valley, together.
So, if you want to join me, I got my Pilgrimage Planner at HomeGoods. And here are some of what the inside looks like:
For me, this is one of those times of my day that I treasure deeply! It’s a time to write of His “that day’s” sufficiency!! His grace seen and felt. His mercy underserved. His work. His surprises that stretch a smile across my face without warning! And to make note of when I needed Him most.
If you get a Pilgrimage Planner, let me know! I’d love to hear about it!
I love you dearly,
