Proverbs 16:24

“Pleasant words are a honeycomb, sweet to the soul and healing to the bones.”

As women we are usually concerned with what goes into our mouths. As I have thought about this I couldn’t help but think about what comes our of our mouths instead. We can control both  scenarios, but do we?

Let’s think about a honeycomb. Look at the picture above. Notice all the details, all the little holes, pits, crannies, crevices and the sweet honey that we see oozing out. You know if the light hits a honeycomb just right, it will glisten and shine.

Now, think about your mouth as the honeycomb and your words as the honey that comes out of it. Like the honeycomb, our mouth has lots of details, and it surely has many holes and pits. Some that come to my mind are gossip, slander, angry words, and idle talk. Imagine if we would allow our mouths to be filled with the pure, sweet, word of God. Not only would our speech be sweet, but it would “ooze” out of us!

I believe in physical exercise and watching what I put in my mouth. What if all of us spent an equal or greater amount of time on our spiritual bodies? I want to challenge all of us to make spending time in God’s Word a priority every day. Put it on your “to do” list and see what happens.

When you go to bed at night reflect on your day. Who did you speak with? Were your words kind? Who did you take time to encourage, did you discourage anyone? As God speaks to you about this, ask His forgiveness and for the opportunity to apologize to anyone that you may have been unkind to.

I pray that all of us are convicted when we use our mouths for harm, instead of “sweetness”. If we would just allow the Light of the World to fill us, then our lives will shine before others and bring glory to God.

Living free!

Powerful…and such a good analogy. I pray each day that my mouth truly will be the overflow of a heart FULL of His heart, and words. Thank you Rene for this visual of a honeycomb…loved this!
