Choose Life

“I call heaven and earth to witness against you today, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and curse.  Therefore choose life,…” Deuteronomy 30:19

Life Magazine has successfully covered the lives of famous people, from all over the world. Some issues have been entirely devoted to the lives of great people.  One such issue; was on President John F. Kennedy.  From a child’s prospective; it seemed everyone I knew, loved President Kennedy.  I was a student in elementary school, the day Kennedy was shot by Lee Harvey Oswald. I remember sitting in my classroom, as the principle made the announcement over the intercom.  A great life, devalued by the one, was stolen from the many.

Kennedy was famous for his line, “Ask not, what your country can do for you.  Ask what you can do for your country.”

We live in a day and age where life has been devalued by many. Doctors perform abortions; as if they were removing a tumor from inside of a woman’s body. It’s referred to as an option, an option for the mother but the baby has no say in the choice.  Just as the life of President Kennedy was stolen by Oswald, the lives of many babies have been stolen from them.

So many women try to move forward in life after abortion while carrying an all consuming guilt. The good news is: Because Jesus died on a cross, shedding His blood for the forgiveness of your sins and mine, His death made it possible for us to live with crucified guilt.  Jesus took our sins and the guilt of our sins to the cross. Does this mean we won’t feel godly sorrow over our sin? No, but godly sorrow brings repentance and repentance is acknowledging our sin before God, and then receiving His forgiveness. Then we can move forward in life with this promise: “There is no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.”  Christ’s story is recorded in the Bible along with every detailed promise from God the Father, written with all of us in mind. He died to give us eternal life, but also to provide every day forgiveness for our sin, past, present or future so we can move forward.

No sin is beyond His forgiveness.

Jesus is ready to restore you.  John 10:10 promises He will bring you life and life abundant.  Your part is to believe and receive the life and forgiveness and future He longs to give you.

Prayer In Motion:

Lord, may I choose life in Christ, more than the life I would choose for myself.  May I believe and receive the forgiveness and the life You alone will give me. In Jesus Name.  Amen
