Leave the Light on for You

Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, “I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.” John 8:12

In the past, there was a television commercial for Motel 6.  They proudly boasted; “We will leave the light on for you.”  I think my dear husband remembered this commercial when he had the bright idea to leave the light on for an unwanted creature in our attic.

Let me explain. We have seen some activity in our attic and it wasn’t left behind by me or my husband. There were little piles of wood-like shavings on the attic floor.  It’s something only very sharp toe nails or teeth could have left behind. Most recently, I realized this critter must be of some size; as he knocked over a whole bin of teapots and jars. Mercy; what a mess!

Before setting a critter trap, Ben carefully placed bird seed inside of a small bowl to try and lure our unwanted visitor.   Here’s the funny part.  For the past four nights; he’s left the light on for this creature; so It could see to crawl in the trap.  It makes me laugh out loud.  My husband’s engineer mind believes his trap to be inviting.

Less than human creatures do not need a light on to find their food.  Many of our neighbors leave their front porch light on each night, in order to deter robbers and thieves.  I just checked this morning and the trap is still set, awaiting its prisoner.

The point of all this:  Lights can be inviting or deterring.  It depends upon the motive of the one coming.  Is he invited or uninvited?  Thieves and critters are never invited.

The Light of the World always leaves a light on for you.  His Light is never off.  His intention is always right and good and pure.  He wants to draw you to Himself and bring you love, joy peace, hope. Most of all He wants to give you ever lasting life. His Light isn’t meant to trap you. It’s meant to free you from your darkest bondage.  The Savior awaits.  If you do not know Jesus; please come to the Light.

Prayer:

Lord, thank You for being the Light of the World.  I come to where You are.  Thank You for continually drawing me to Your Light.  Please dispel any darkness or sin and lead me continually in Your ways.  I love You Jesus.  Amen
