Jesus is Mocked

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

“Now the men who were holding Jesus in custody were mocking him as they bet him.  They also blindfolded him and kept asking him, Prophesy! Who is it that struck you?” And they said many other things against him, blaspheming him.” Luke 22:63-65

It hurts me to think of how our Jesus was treated; even before His crucifixion.  They blindfolded Him and kept asking Him, to prophesy who was striking Him.  These persecutors also blasphemed the Son of God.

After that; He had to appear before the council of the chief priests and scribes.  They questioned Him asking if He was the Christ.  He said, “Even if I tell you, you will not believe.”   They also asked if He was the Son of God?  He said, “You say that I am.”  These “spiritual leaders” said, “We have heard it ourselves from His own lips.”

They were denying the very essence of who Jesus is.  He is the Son of God.  He is the Christ.  Jesus stated; “He would be seated at the right hand of the power of God.”  With every statement; these council members became more and more angry.

Isaiah 54:6 states that “Jesus was despised and rejected by men; a man of sorrows, acquainted with grief and as one from whom men hide their faces He was despised, and we esteemed Him not.  Verses 4-6 bring us hope and promise. “Surely He has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows; yet we esteemed Him stricken, smitten by God and afflicted, but He was pierced for our transgressions, He was crushed for our iniquities; upon Him was the chastisement that brought us peace and with His wounds we are healed.”

Oh dear reader, don’t you see?  Through the mocking, scourging, beating, and piercing of Christ; those who believe in Him are made whole.  All of this unjust punishment placed upon our sinless Jesus; satisfied the wrath of God, for our sins.  It is by His stripes that we are healed. Oh what a Savior!  Oh what a Deliverer!

Prayer in Motion:

Lord, words will not even come to express my gratitude.  You did this for me.  I will never get over it.  You took my punishment. You took my place. I offer up this old song. “How can I say thanks for the things You have done for me?  Things so undeserved, that You gave to prove Your love for me.  The voices of a thousand angels could not express my gratitude.  All that I am and ever hope to be.  I owe it all to Thee.  To God be the glory, for the things He has done.”  I love You Lord.  In Jesus Name I offer up this prayer.  Amen
