"His Day"

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

When God blessed me ten and a half years ago with Gary Nealy,  I knew I was in for a ride but just did not know what a ride God had in store. One of the many reasons I fell in love with him was his heart!  He loved the Lord with all his heart and he loved his family and friends deeply!

Yesterday was Gary’s 57th birthday! (Don’t tell him I told you how old he is) As most of you know Middle Tennessee has been in the middle of an ice storm and we have pretty much been safely hunkering down in our little apartment. It’s been bone chilling cold and we are beach people so you know what weather like this can do to people like us.  Brrr! But yesterday on his birthday he was out of bed early, anxiously awaiting for me to get up.  This was “His Day” and he wanted to get it started! (So much for me making him breakfast in bed. He brought ME coffee in bed. LOL)

Our daughter, Brooke, has four beautiful kids and had an extra one or two running around.  As she put it:  mommy 1/kids 6.  They were going stir crazy and were more than ready to escape to different surroundings and Gary knew this.  We even had one of the other grandkids spending the night with us. All he wanted for his birthday was to be surrounded by his family.  So he was more than anxious to grab a shower, jump in the jeep and go bring them to our small 1200 square foot apartment. So, adults 3/kids 6.  We fixed meals, ate, baked a birthday cake, played in the snow and ate snow cones together.  It was none stop all day! But OH the joys of laughter!

Gary wanted to hear their laughter, watch them play in the snow, eat chocolate birthday cake and hear them sing an off key version of “Happy Birthday”!  He wanted their kisses and hugs and whispers of “I love you” to surround him on “His Day”! Don’t you think this is what our Heavenly Father wants from us – His children on “His Day”?

Gary wanted to spend time with people he loves and who love him back!

God wants to spend time with us.

“I love those who love me, and those who seek me diligently will find me. Proverbs 8:17

Gary wanted to see their smiles, hear their laughter, see their joy and spend time with each of them.

God wants to see our joy and excitement and hear our laughter as we experience the blessings He bestows upon us.

“Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth, break forth into joyous song and sing praises! Psalm 98:4.

Surround your life with the things that make you happy just as Gary did. “His Day” was about the real things in life that should make us all happy, not material things but tangible things.  Things that make a life-long memory.

Give those kids a big hug today!

Gary did!

God’s waiting!

Happy Birthday, Gary!  I love you MORE!
