He Did it Anyway

“Going a little farther, he fell with his face to the ground and prayed, “My Father, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from me. Yet not as I will, but as you will.” Matthew 26:39

Don’t you wonder how Jesus was feeling the week before His crucifixion?  He is fully God and fully man.  He’s Omniscient, All Knowing; so He knew the day was coming, when He would be beaten beyond recognition.  He knew a crown of thorns would be forced down upon His head. He knew He would do it for you. He knew His hands and feet would be pierced through for your transgressions. He knew all of this before He left His Father’s throne.

Scripture tells us our Lord sweat drops of blood; as He prayed to His Father on the evening of His arrest. He cried out to the Father to “take this cup from Him”.  Our finite minds tend to think He was able to super-cede human emotions.  Again; He was fully God and fully man.  Sweating drops of blood means there was great anxiety within our Savior.  He had seen crucifixions. He knew the horrific pain that lay ahead of Him.

And Yet, He did it anyway.  He did it for you!

Behold in your mind; God Himself, our Suffering Savior.  With every painful lash placed upon His body, He was saying; “I love you, my bride.  Whom He foreknew; He predestined to become the (sons and daughters of God)  That’s YOU, my friend.  You were on His mind with every rip of skin, every pound of the nails, every spittle that fell on His face from those who hated Him.

He could barely stand; as the cross was placed upon His back. He had already endured hours of persecution. to top it off He had to carry the cross up a hill called Mt. Calvary.  Falling to the ground, a man named Simon of Cyrene was chosen to bear it for Him.

The Savior of the world did all of this for you and would have done it even if you were the only one.  In spite of all my sin; He did it anyway.

Prayer in Motion:

Lord Jesus I am overwhelmed by Your great love for me and all the people in this world.  As the day of our Easter Celebration draws nigh; I pray I will draw nigh to You and worship You as the Risen Savior.  In Jesus Name.  Amen
