Face to Face

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

“For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face.  Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as i have been fully known.” 1 Corinthians 13:12

There is just something about face to face conversations, live and in person; but when that is impossible, we have all sorts of options made available to us by our media.  We have Facebook, Face Time, as well as camera’s on our computers and i-phones. All of these are possibilities from which we may choose to look at someone eyeball to eyeball.

Jacob had a face to face encounter with the Lord God when he wrestled with Him for a whole night.  The Bible states that “No man can see God and live.”  Jacob made the statement in Genesis 32:30…”For I have seen God face o face, and yet my life has been delivered.”

In Exodus 33:11 we see “the Lord used to speak to Moses face to face, as a man speaks to his friend.”  In Deuteronomy 5:4-5  Moses recounts the time the LORD spoke with Israel,…while Moses stood between them and the LORD because the people were afraid of the heavenly fire, glowing on that mountain from which God spoke the Ten Commandments.

In Judges 6:22 Gideon saw the angel of the Lord, face to face. The LORD called him a mighty man of valor and asked him to go save Israel from the hand of Midian.  Gideon questioned, How can I save Israel?  My men are the weakest in Manasseh.  The Lord said, “But I will be with you, and you shall strike the Midianites as one man.”  The Lord waited, while Gideon went in to prepare an offering of worship.  Gideon brought his meat and cakes back and the Lord asked him to place it upon a nearby rock.  The Lord consumed his offering with fire, which meant He was pleased with Gideon’s gift.

I love face to face conversations with my dear friends.  I can only imagine the day when you and I will behold Jesus; face to face, for the very first time.  For now; we have conversations with Him through prayer and reading His Word.  On that day, we shall behold Him, face to face, this One whose voice we’ve heard so many times.

Remember this old hymn:

“What a day that will be, when my Jesus I shall see.  I will look upon His face, the One who saved me by His grace.  Then He’ll take me by His hand and lead me through the promised land. What a day, glorious day, that will be.”

Prayer in Motion:

Lord, “You are beautiful beyond description, too marvelous for words, too wonderful for comprehension, like nothing ever seen or heard…” Lord, I beseech You by Your mercies , to reveal Yourself to me this day.  I want to have a face to face encounter with You, whatever that looks like, for this earthly vessel.  In Jesus Name, I offer up this prayer.  Amen
