Do you have a little Thomas in you?

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

“So the other disciples told him, “We have seen the Lord.” But he said to them, “Unless I see in His hands the mark of the nails, and place my finger into the mark of the nails, and place my hand into His side, I will never believe.”  John 20:25

Have you ever considered that Jesus invited a doubter into the group? Jesus knew Thomas was a doubter before He called him to service.

Jesus knew that deep within all of us is an overwhelming capacity to doubt. We are born with it. It is part of our sin nature. So, He gave us good ole’ doubting Thomas. Jesus knew we would need a point of reference for those times when we doubt. Just look at the love He showed Thomas,

“Jesus came and stood among them and said, “Peace be with you.” Then He said to Thomas, “Put your finger here, and see My hands; and put out your hand and place it in My side. Do not disbelieve, but believe.”  John 20:26-27

Jesus didn’t have to reveal Himself to Thomas in His resurrected body, but He did. He could have been angry with him or even cast him out of the group, but He didn’t.  Jesus knew Thomas, and He knows us.

Friend, Jesus knows what we struggle with, He knows our hearts long to see Him. He knows in our waiting for His return that we have days that we question, “Is He really coming back? Does He really care about me? Does He even see what I am going through?”

He is coming back, He cares so very deeply for us, and He sees everything that we go through. He knows, He knows, He knows, and because He knows He lets us reach out and touch Him. Take His hand today and let Him lead you through your day because He knows.

Prayer for today:

Lord Jesus, thank You that You know me and all that concerns me. Thank You that you know my doubts and hear my prayers. I put my hand in Yours, because today, instead of doubt I choose trust. I choose You. Please walk with me today and lead my path. I need You Jesus.  In Your name I lift this prayer to You. Amen.
