Delays to Obey

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

“Has the LORD as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, As in obeying the voice of the LORD?  Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice….”  1 Samuel 15:22

Has God ever called you to do something totally out of your comfort zone?  Did you struggle to obey Him?  The next verse in today’s passage says this:

“For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, And stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry.  Because you have rejected the word of the LORD, He also has rejected you from being king.”

These were harsh words Samuel said to King Saul; who destroyed the Amalekites but took the spoil; rather than destroying it, as God had commanded.

Stubbornness or rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft.  Witchcraft is defined as “the use of sorcery or magic, obtained through the devil.”  Out of the mouth of God, these words penned on page 375 in my Bible, leaped off the page.  Argh!  I do not want to disobey or run from God because I “feel” inept.  If God has called me to it; He will make a way to complete the task!

I am looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of my faith.  If I want my latter days to be greater than the former. If I want to live to see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living. If I want to please my heavenly Father; I must obey.  Sooner than later.

If you are parenting a child that is still in your home; there is nothing that pleases you more, than their quick obedience.  Then why do we delay to do the Lord’s bidding?

In 1 Thessalonians 1:4; Paul urges and exhorts the Thessalonians in the Lord Jesus to “abound more and more, as they had received from him how they ought to walk and to please God.”

1 Thessalonians 5:24 says this, “He who calls you is faithful, who also will do it.”  Based upon this verse, our delays to obey are sinful.  Whatever the Lord is calling you to do; obey quickly.

Prayer in Motion:

Oh God, please forgive me for trying to work out all the details of the task to which I’ve been called, before hand.  You will accomplish what concerns me.  If you have called me to this God sized task, then I must trust You to provide the way.  I love You Jesus.  Amen
