Cleaning Out

“Create in me a clean heart, O God, And renew a steadfast spirit within me.”  Psalm 51:10

There is cleaning out and then there is CLEANING OUT!  My step mother passed away on December 27, 2016.  Ruby was one of the cleanest, neatest women I’ve ever known.  She was extremely organized.

We all have “stuff” that means something to us; however, these things will mean nothing to anyone left behind.  I began to ponder my kids coming in when Ben and I are dead; to clean out the things that will mean nothing to them.  Oh my; it was quite a sobering moment.

My husband and I had three hours to help clean out this little apartment.  Peggy, Ruby’s biological daughter was there; her son and a few of his friends, some family members, as well as Ruby’s best friend Carolyn.  We worked like crazy but were unable to finish the task.  A car load of stuff went out to Goodwill and there is much more to go.  Clothes, books, appliances, a trunk and a little stationary fire place were shared with family and friends.

A life time of treasures out the door.

My point being; Do we really need to keep all that “stuff” stored in the attic; the basement or in a storage building?  I guess it could possibly bless someone somewhere.  One man’s trash; another man’s treasure; right?  Should we take inventory and evaluate our “stuff?” Truly, I believe we should.

When Ruby’s soul took flight to heaven; she left her “stuff” behind.  And so will we dear friend; so will we.  Much of my stuff has been given to me by friends or family members.  They are my treasures.  However; I know that I need to take inventory, clean out what I know that no one will want.

More than our “stuff,”  we need to examine our hearts.  Take inventory.  Are we hanging onto anything that would be displeasing to our Father?  Is there something for which we need to confess and repent?  A treasured sin hidden in your heart?  “If we regard iniquity in our hearts; the Lord will not hear our prayers.” Let go of the sin that’s holding onto you.

                                                                             Clean it out!

Prayer in Motion:

Lord Jesus, I have promised to serve Thee till the end.  Be Thou forever near me; my Master and my Friend.  I shall not fear the battle, for Thou art by my side.”  Help me to do the right thing Lord.  Help me clean out and get rid of material stuff; as well as the hidden sins.  “Create in me a clean heart Oh God and renew a right spirit within me.”  In Jesus Name.  Amen
