Christmas Haste

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

“When the angels went away from them into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, “Let us go over to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has made known to us.”  And they went with haste and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby lying in a manger.”Luke 2:15-16

My mom used to say, “Haste makes waste.”  She meant doing things too quickly or making decisions too quickly; can make for wasted time, and can even lead to a wasted life.

This week, I watched as shoppers hurriedly grabbed the gifts they were purchasing for their loved ones.  I actually experienced my first “old lady” learn how to drive tongue lashing,” during this most wonderful time of the year.  It was dark and I was desperately trying to find a friend’s home.  I noticed someone’s head lights were shining close and brightly into my rear view mirror.  I thought maybe she was one of our party; needing to find her way.  After pulling into the development, I pulled over to the curb.  The lady rolled down her window; to make certain that I heard her voice very clearly.  As she sped off, I wondered if she is a Christ follower,  who maybe had a bad day.  Spirit filled Christians are without excuse, when we choose to act in the flesh and disregard displaying the fruit of Christ’s Holy Spirit.  Inwardly; I was angry; however, hindsight being twenty-twenty; why didn’t I wish her a Merry Christmas?  I too; was in a hurry, to get to my Christmas gathering.

Going with haste is not necessarily a bad thing.  The shepherds went with haste to see baby Jesus.  The Savior of the World had arrived and they desperately needed  to get there.  There are many things for which we need to go in haste.  If we dawdle, we may miss the opportunity of a life time.  If there is someone whom you need to ask forgiveness; go in haste and seek to make peace.  If you need to mend a broken bridge with a long time friend or family member; do not delay.  Go in haste.  Is there someone with whom you need to share the gospel?  Go in haste!  Share the Truth in love.  Don’t miss out on any God ordained opportunities this Christmas season.

Think about what really matters as you are hastily shopping, baking and rushing to get to your Christmas activities. Think about what truly needs to be done in haste.  Is there a place or a person, you need to re-visit? Is there an unresolved conflict? Is there a kindness I need to display? Those are the things that should not be neglected.   Don’t wait another day! Go in haste!

Prayer in Motion:

Lord Jesus; may I go in haste, to do your bidding.  I want to obey You quickly.  I love You Lord Jesus.  Please do not let me miss a God ordained opportunity; during this season to be joyful!  In Jesus Name.  Amen
