2016 Color of the Year

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

We are seeing so much white now that is trending like wildfire! Every where I go, I am seeing more and more clients who want white walls, white furniture, white upholstered chairs, white drapes….on and on we are having clients ask for white subway tiles, white chalk painted mantles.

The House Beautiful featured image is how we are seeing families wanting to create their own spaces – brighter, lighter, and more fresh & crisp, with pops of color or neutrals.

And here’s why – WHITE WORKS!

My friend and fellow blogger, Ashley Lancaster, needs a T-shirt that says,

“I liked white when white wasn’t cool.”

And she really did! She painted the walls of her home and chose shades of white all through out her home long before it became a rising trend. But here’s why. As in Interior Designer, she knows that white is the ideal blank canvas. It gives a clean and calming presence to any space and is definitely the most versatile.

But have you ever wondered what white is really “the white” that works? Here are some APPS you can use to help you literally transform your space, browse through paint colors, rearrange furniture, all in 3D and all on an App.

There are SO many whites – some with pink undertones, some with gray. Some whites appear warm while others have a blueish hue. If you go into your local Sherwin Williams or Benjamin Moore or Lowes, you are going to see a rainbow of whites, and the only way to know which white you need, is to take the samples home or use the Apps. You will need to see the white you choose in your space, either “for real” or electronically.

ALL White paints

Sherwin Williams voted Alabaster their 2016 Color of the year – just a tinge of warmth to this white.

While Benjamin Moore chose Simply White – has the slightest hint of “blush” to it I think.

I chose to paint our walls Amazing Gray by Sherwin Williams because for my personal taste, I love the stark contrast of pure white and wood tones against the gray. It just seems to still give me the warmth I need in home, but looks great with all the stark white furniture we have and all the woodsy tones and black iron we have peppered throughout.

This is a great article on white – and how to choose the right one for you!

If you want some help in moving forward in decorating your home, give me a call. I’d love to help you!
